Thank you Henre Benson, director of CASME, for the wonderful feedback on the project that took off in October 2020 and your kind recommendation:
“CASME is a non-profit education development organisation, focused on supporting teachers and learners in mathematics and science in rural and peri-urban schools. In the face of the global SARS-CoV-2 pandemic we had to pivot our programmes to online and blended approaches.
To assist us with this transition we contracted Flying Cows of Jozi to provide instructional design and ICT integration capacity building for our subject specialists. A dedicated ID coach was assigned to support our team through one-on-one and group sessions, delivered virtually.
Having this support has helped the team develop some key competencies in the development of their training and support programmes for delivery through our Learning Management System.
As an organisation that has a long history of working in education development, we recognise the importance of support, when attempting to implement new skills and approaches to teaching, and would highly recommend Flying Cows as a partner in this specialist aspect of education development.”
Our Flying Cow working on the CASME project is Thami Hemeni, who holds a BEd Honours in ICT in Education and has worked as an Instructional Designer at UJ’s Centre for Academic Technology.
For Thami it is satisfying to witness the learning and the improvement of the CASME subject advisors’ digital skills. “The willingness from the CASME facilitators to try innovative approaches is highly energising” he says “and as a young educator I learned a lot from their teaching expertise while observing how they delivered their lessons.”
